How to Get Your HVAC System Ready for Summer

How to Get Your HVAC System Ready for Summer

Really warm weather is just around the corner! It’s time to make sure your air conditioner is up to speed so it can perform once the new season’s heat gets too much. Here are some of the things you can do to. Read on to discover how to get your HVAC system ready for summer.

How to Get Your HVAC System Ready for Summer

1. Start by Changing the Filters

Maintenance is the key to an HVAC system’s performance. Spring brings with it more pollen and dust than normal. For that reason, you need to change your filters constantly, especially if the system is used frequently.

Aside from air conditioner filters, you need to clean your air supply vents and registers. This can help improve air flow and also boost your home’s indoor air quality.

2. Check the Thermostat

At the start of the cooling or heating season, your thermostat should be working properly. However, if it’s not, you may need to have it recalibrated.

If you’re using an older thermostat, consider an upgrade to a programmable one. A programmable thermostat adjusts the indoor temperature to align with your schedule. In addition, it heats or cools a space only when it’s needed.

3. Consider Using Window Treatments

The sun streaming through your windows contributes to the heat buildup. This can cause your HVAC system to work even harder. However, you can find an easy solution! Simply hang curtains, drapes, or blinds to curtail the heat coming in from the windows.

4. Reduce the Use of Appliances

Some of your home appliances generate heat while in use. For that reason, you may want to find alternative methods. For example, instead of cooking inside, you can take advantage of the warm weather and do some outdoor grilling. Also, instead of doing the laundry all at once, you can run smaller loads. Additionally, you can hang your clothes out to dry outside.
