Call if you’re unsure whether we reach your address.
How long has Neal’s Heating & Air been in business? +

What are Neal’s business hours? +
Our office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, for scheduled service and estimates. For emergencies, we answer the phone 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including holidays.
Does Neal’s offer free estimates? +
Yes, estimates for new system installations, whether AC, heating, heat pumps, or tankless water heaters, are free. Repair and diagnostic visits include a standard service call fee, which is disclosed before we dispatch, and we always provide a flat-rate repair quote before any work begins.
Does Neal’s offer financing? +
Yes, through our financing partner. Quick credit decisions and flexible monthly payment options are available for qualifying customers on new system installations. Visit our Financing page or call (706) 764-7185 to get started.
What HVAC brands does Neal’s work with? +
We install Trane as an authorized Comfort Specialist, along with Navien and Rinnai tankless water heaters. For repairs and maintenance, we service all major residential brands, including Carrier, Lennox, Rheem, Ruud, Goodman, York, Bryant, and American Standard.

AC Repair, Installation & Maintenance

How much does AC repair cost in LaFayette, GA? +
Most residential AC repairs run between $150 and $600 depending on the failed component. Simple fixes like capacitors are on the lower end; refrigerant work or fan motor replacement runs higher. We always give a flat-rate quote before starting work.
Should I repair or replace my air conditioner? +
As a rule of thumb, if your system is over 10 years old and the repair cost is approaching half the price of a new one, replacement usually wins on value. We’ll give you honest numbers for both options so you can decide.
How much does a new AC installation cost? +
A full system replacement in our area typically runs $4,500 to $10,000 or more, depending on system size, efficiency tier, and whether ductwork needs attention. We provide a detailed written quote after a Manual J load calculation and site visit, never a guess over the phone.
What SEER rating should I choose for a new AC system? +
Higher SEER ratings mean lower monthly energy costs but higher upfront equipment cost. Most of our Trane installations range from SEER 15 to 22. We’ll help you weigh the trade-off based on your budget and how long you plan to stay in the home.
How often should I have my AC serviced? +
Once a year at minimum, ideally in spring before the cooling season peaks. Comfort Club members get this scheduled automatically with priority timing.
Do you offer same-day AC repair? +
Yes, in most cases. Our trucks carry the parts needed for the most common repairs, and we resolve the majority of AC calls in a single visit.

Heating

Furnace Repair, Heat Pumps & Maintenance

How much does furnace repair cost? +
Typical furnace repairs run $150 to $500. Igniters and flame sensors are toward the lower end; control boards and gas valves run higher. A cracked heat exchanger is usually a replacement conversation rather than a repair, since the cost approaches a new system on an aging furnace.
What is a heat pump and is it right for my home? +
A heat pump moves heat rather than generating it, providing both heating and cooling from one system. For our region’s winters, mostly mild with occasional cold snaps, a heat pump handles the majority of heating days efficiently, especially paired with a gas furnace backup.
What is a dual-fuel heating system? +
It’s a heat pump and gas furnace working together. The heat pump handles most heating days efficiently, and the system automatically switches to the gas furnace once temperatures drop below a set threshold, giving you efficiency most of the time and full power when it’s genuinely cold.
How much does heat pump installation cost? +
Generally $5,000 to $12,000 or more, depending on system tier and whether dual-fuel configuration is included. We size every system with a Manual J load calculation rather than a rule-of-thumb estimate.
How often should heating systems be serviced? +
Once a year, ideally in fall before the heating season starts. This is when a technician catches a borderline igniter or a developing heat exchanger issue before it becomes a mid-winter emergency.
Is Neal’s available for emergency furnace repair? +
Yes, 24 hours a day. A failed furnace on a cold night is a genuine emergency, and we treat it that way.
How do I know if my furnace is a carbon monoxide risk? +
You usually can’t tell without testing equipment. We test for carbon monoxide and visually inspect the heat exchanger on every furnace service call, standard practice, not an upsell. Install CO detectors on every level of your home regardless, and replace them every 5 to 7 years.

Indoor Air Quality

Air Quality & Duct Cleaning

How do I know if I have an indoor air quality problem? +
Common signs include allergy symptoms that improve when you leave the house, musty odors that don’t go away with cleaning, visible mold near vents, or unusual dust buildup despite regular cleaning. An assessment can pin down the actual cause.
What’s the difference between a standard filter and a high-MERV filter? +
A standard 1-inch filter (MERV 1-4) mainly protects your equipment from large debris. A high-MERV media filter (MERV 11-13) captures much finer particles, pollen, mold spores, fine dust, that standard filters let straight through.
Do UV lights in HVAC systems actually help? +
Yes, for what they’re designed to do. A UV-C light at the evaporator coil reduces mold growth and microbial buildup on the coil and in recirculated air. It doesn’t capture particles, though, so it works best paired with good filtration, not as a replacement for it.
How often should air ducts be cleaned? +
For a well-maintained home with no unusual contamination, every 5 to 7 years is reasonable, or after any renovation work. We don’t recommend annual duct cleaning as routine maintenance for most homes, and we’ll tell you honestly if your ducts don’t need it.
Will duct cleaning help my allergies? +
It depends on whether duct contamination is actually contributing to your symptoms. It can help when it is, but it’s not a substitute for proper filtration or a whole-home air purifier if those are the bigger factors.
Can Neal’s install whole-home humidity control? +
Yes. Whole-home dehumidifiers and humidifiers can be integrated with your existing system to keep indoor humidity in the 35-50% range year-round, addressing both summer mugginess and winter dry air.

Tankless Water Heaters

Navien & Rinnai Tankless Systems

How much does a tankless water heater cost? +
Installed cost typically runs $1,800 to $3,500, depending on the unit and whether gas line or venting work is needed. We provide a firm quote before any work starts.
How long do tankless water heaters last? +
With annual maintenance, Navien and Rinnai units routinely reach 20 years, compared to 8 to 12 years for a traditional tank water heater.
Can a tankless water heater supply a whole house? +
Yes, if it’s sized correctly for your household’s peak demand. We calculate the right flow rate rather than guessing based on house size alone.
What tankless water heater brands does Neal’s install? +
We’re authorized dealers for both Navien and Rinnai, the two leading brands in residential tankless technology.
Do tankless water heaters need maintenance? +
Yes, primarily an annual descaling to flush mineral buildup from the heat exchanger, especially important given our region’s water hardness. This is available as an add-on to Comfort Club memberships.
Are there tax credits available for tankless water heaters? +
High-efficiency gas tankless units may qualify for federal energy efficiency tax credits, and some utilities offer rebates. Eligibility changes year to year, so check current IRS guidance or ask your tax advisor.

Ductless Mini-Splits

Room-by-Room Comfort, No Ductwork

What is a ductless mini-split system? +
It’s a heating and cooling system with an outdoor condenser connected to one or more indoor units, with no ductwork required. Each indoor unit can be set to a different temperature independently.
Where do ductless mini-splits make the most sense? +
Room additions, converted garages, sunrooms, and older homes that never had central ductwork installed are the most common and practical use cases.
Can a mini-split replace my whole HVAC system? +
For some homes, a multi-zone system can. For most homes with a functioning central system, a mini-split makes more sense as a targeted solution for a specific room or addition rather than a full replacement.
Do ductless mini-splits work well in North Georgia winters? +
Yes. Modern mini-split heat pumps handle our region’s cooling season efficiently and maintain heating capacity well below freezing during cold snaps.
Are ductless mini-splits noisy? +
No, indoor units run notably quieter than window units, and outdoor condensers are designed for low noise operation.

Smart Thermostats

Nest, Ecobee & Honeywell Home

How much does smart thermostat installation cost? +
Professional installation runs $150 to $350, depending on the model and whether a C-wire needs to be added. That includes the hardware, installation, and full programming.
Can I install a smart thermostat myself? +
You can if your wiring is straightforward. The most common snag is a missing C-wire, which requires running a new wire from the air handler, more involved than the thermostat swap itself.
Will a smart thermostat work with my heat pump? +
Yes, but it needs to be configured correctly for heat pump-specific settings like auxiliary heat lockout and emergency heat mode. We verify compatibility and configure these on every heat pump installation.
How much can a smart thermostat actually save me? +
Energy Star estimates average savings of about 8% on heating and 10% on cooling versus a standard programmable thermostat. In our region’s long cooling season, that adds up.
What smart thermostat brands does Neal’s install? +
Google Nest, Ecobee, and Honeywell Home. We’ll recommend based on your equipment and what features you’ll actually use.

Comfort Club & Financing

Maintenance Plans & Payment Options

What is the Neal’s Comfort Club? +
It’s our HVAC maintenance membership. Members get scheduled tune-ups, a 15% discount on all repairs, priority scheduling, and documentation that protects your manufacturer warranty.
What’s the difference between Comfort Club Silver and Gold? +
Silver includes one annual tune-up. Gold includes two seasonal visits (spring and fall) and waives the after-hours emergency surcharge entirely. Both include the 15% repair discount and the full 25-point inspection.
Does the Comfort Club cover the cost of repairs? +
It doesn’t cover repair costs outright, but it gives you 15% off parts and labor on every repair call, effectively a standing discount every time you need service.
How do I apply for HVAC financing? +
Visit our Financing page and complete the online application, or call (706) 764-7185 and we’ll walk you through it. Credit decisions are typically returned within minutes.
Do I need good credit to qualify for financing? +
Not necessarily. Financing programs are available across a range of credit profiles. It’s worth applying to see what you qualify for rather than assuming you won’t.
Can I pay off HVAC financing early? +
Yes, most of our financing options allow early payoff with no penalty.

Emergency Service

24/7 Emergency HVAC

Is Neal’s really available 24/7 for emergencies? +
Yes. A real person answers the phone 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including holidays, not a voicemail or answering service.
Is there an extra charge for after-hours emergency service? +
After-hours calls do carry a dispatch fee, disclosed when you call. Comfort Club Gold members are exempt from this surcharge entirely.
How fast can Neal’s respond to an HVAC emergency? +
It depends on call volume and your location, but multiple customers have reported response times under 15 minutes. We’ll always give you an honest estimate when you call.
What should I do while waiting for an emergency technician? +
For AC failures in summer, close blinds and use fans in the coolest room. For heating failures in winter, use space heaters safely away from flammable materials and keep extra blankets on hand. For a suspected carbon monoxide issue, leave the house immediately and call from outside.
What should I do if I smell gas in my home? +
Leave immediately without flipping any light switches, call 911 or your gas utility from outside, and don’t return until they’ve cleared the building. This is a gas utility emergency, not an HVAC call, contact us afterward if your furnace needs inspection.
